WELCOME to my web site. You won't be surprised to learn that I am a dedicated quilter - why else would I have a sewing machine included in my 'head shot'? For those of you who are also quilters you will recognize the syndrome - I thought I'd try making a quilt and almost immediately quilting took over my life.
I have been quilting since 1986 and teaching since 1987. That's right, I started teaching one year after I made my first quilt. I live in the beautiful Comox Valley on Vancouver Island and in 1986 there were no quilt teachers here. After I had made half a dozen quilts I became the local 'expert' and reluctantly agreed to teach my first class. I was terrified. But, my students were enthusiastic and wanted more, so I added another class to the beginner class I'd taught, and it has just kept on growing.
I enjoy teaching – no, I love teaching – and I feel very strongly that students learn more in a relaxed atmosphere. My classes are full of fun – and information – but the emphasis is on making what we do enjoyable. After all, it is supposed to be fun.
In the spring of 2008 I received an invitation "I couldn't refuse". My friends, Elizabeth Phillips and Chris Manuel invited me to join with them in forming a company to produce instructional DVDs, and Nine Patch Media was born. I had been thinking about new ways to reach students and DVDs seemed to be the perfect solution. I can now 'go home' with every student who expresses a wish to have me in their sewing room as a consultant. Not only me, but other teachers also. How would you like to have Pamela Allen, Carol Doak, Ionne McCauley, Margaret Miller, Barbara Olson, Jackie Robinson, Barbara Shapel or Lorraine Torrence show you the perfect way to do their techniques? Our list of wonderful teachers is growing all the time and we invite you to visit the site often to see who else has 'dropped in'.
Please visit my companion site to see the list of exciting titles available now and the equally exciting list that is coming soon.
